Collaboration with the Summit County Jail Continues 02/17/2012

The Summit County Sheriff and the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADM) Services Board are working together to best address issues surrounding people with serious mental illness in the jail. We continue to work to coordinate services to ensure that those who serve time in jail receive the treatment and supports they need both during their incarceration and after release. Did you know: * Maternal depression effects not only mom, but the entire family. * Negative effects of maternal depression can start during pregnancy and if untreated, may lead to low birth weight, prematurity and obstetric complications. * Children born to mothers with untreated depression have more difficulty with attachment, which can increase the likelihood of depression, behavior problems and aggression in children. * Moms are not routinely screened for maternal depression < Read more. >

Rise Sister Rise Data Sharing Presentation 08/11/2011

The Rise Sister Rise research project, funded by the Ohio Department of Mental Health, was designed to evaluate African American Girls’ experiences with trauma and resilience in four Ohio cities. A total of 409 African American girls between the ages of 11-18, from Akron, Columbus, Dayton and Lima participated in the study. < more >

The ADM Board welcomes New Board Member 07/09/2011

Dr. Peggy Halter earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from Duquesne University and a Master of Science in Nursing with a psychiatric focus from Kent State University. She has taught nursing for the past 21 years and became the Associate Dean of Ashland University\'s College of Nursing in July. She edits and authors Foundations of Psychiatric Nursing, a leading nursing textbook and has experienced working in general and state psychiatric institutions. < Read more >

Did you know that an eating disorder is one of the most deadly types of mental illness? Females who are fifteen to twenty four years old who suffer from anorexia nervosa have a mortality rate twelve times higher than the death rate of all other causes of death (Sullivan, 1995). ADM Board Honors Four Trailblazers at Appreciation Luncheon 10/27/2010

The Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADM) Services Board paid tribute to four local trailblazers at its appreciation luncheon on Wednesday, October 27, 2010. Those receiving awards include: Sally Dean, Suzanne Rymer, Lee Snyder, and Gwen Wilson. In 2007, the County of Summit Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADM) Services Board established awards in honor of five individuals who are recognized as being trailblazers and advocates in the mental health and addiction services field. This award process is intended not only to honor the original honorees which included Drs. Fred and Penny Frese, Maggie Carroll Smith, Sr. Mary Ignatia and Dr. Bob Smith, but also to provide a forum to recognize individuals who emulate their example and service. < Read more. >

Summit for Kids Coming In August 08/01/2010

This year will mark the inaugural Summit County Summit for Children, which will be a two-day event on August 20 and August 21, 2010. BeST Center to Host CBT Workshop in August 08/01/2010

The Best Practices in Schizophrenia Treatment (BeST) Center Department of Psychiatry Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy (NEOUCOM) will host a workshop on High-Yield Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Techniques for Persons with Psychosis on 8/12/10 and 8/13/10. This workshop is designed for psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, case managers or any mental health professional who works with a large population of individuals with psychotic illnesses. < Read more >

SAMHSA Mental Health Campaign Launched 07/22/2010

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)launched the Mental Health Campaing for Mental Health Recovery to encourage, educate and inspire people between 18 and 25 to support their friends who are experiencing mental health problems. < Read more. >

The ADM Board welcomed new staff member, Chris Freeman-Clark MPA, LISW-S, as the Coordinator of Forensic Services last month. In this position, Chris will be working closely with the criminal justice system to monitor treatment, progress and compliance with court orders of clients on forensic status in Summit County. This includes attending court hearings, advocating for the client and/or the mental health system and providing consultation to judges, prosecutors and defense attorneys and other court staff regarding mental health laws. < Read more >

ADM Board Welcomes New Childrens Program Director 06/01/2010

The Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADM) Services Board welcomes Beth Kuckuck, LISW-S, as the Childrens Program Coordinator. This is a newly created position designed to direct more attention and focus on children and their families who struggle with alcohol, drug addiction or mental health issues in Summit County. In this role, Beth will be responsible to ensure that effective services are available that meet community need and result in improved outcomes for Summit County children and families. Schizophrenia Awareness Week Events Planned May 16-22, 2010 05/11/2010

Schizophrenia Awareness Week, an international observance designed to raise community awareness of schizophrenia and psychotic illnesses, will be held May 16-22.
