Trauma Informed Care Coalition
Community partners representing health care, education, legal, and other areas work together to improve quality and access to trauma-informed support.
The coalition’s focus is to increase understanding within the community about trauma and its effects, to improve quality of care and access to evidence-based services for individuals and families affected by trauma, and to facilitate collaboration across systems.
What is trauma?
Trauma is any experience, real or perceived, that leaves a person feeling hopeless, helpless, and/or fearing for one’s survival or safety.
Why is trauma informed care important?
Ensuring trauma informed care is provided means that every part of an organization or program understands and recognizes the impact trauma has on individuals and the organization responds accordingly. Organizations that commit to adopting trauma informed care create a culture that considers and addresses the impact.
