ADM Board Welcomes New Members

The Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health (ADM) Services Board recently welcomed 3 new members to the Board of Directors.  Akron residents Kathlin McCann, Melissa Mellinger and Andre’ J. Thornton Jr. were sworn in by Judge Joy Malek Oldfield at the September Board meeting.

Ms. McCann’s appointment by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OHMHAS), began in August and will run through June 30, 2018. A graduate of Kent State University, Ms. McCann is a licensed Social Worker, Certified Teacher and former Prevention Specialist and is currently employed by Akron Public Schools as a Home Instructor. She has been an active community volunteer and a few of her affiliations include the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank, Good Samaritan Hunger Center, Girl Scouts of America, Akron Inner City Soccer Club and NAACP.

Mrs. Mellinger’s OHMHAS appointment began in September and will run through June 30th, 2019.  Melissa received her MSN degree from Kent State University, obtained certification as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and is employed at the Department of Veteran Affairs in Akron. She is a former member of CHOICES Board of Directors.

Mr. Thornton’s appointment by the County Executive began in July and will run through June 30, 2018. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois-Chicago with a Master of Public Health degree. In addition, he also holds a Master of Business Administration from the Keller School of Management and is a graduate of Leadership Akron. He is currently employed as the Vice President of Corporate Services at ASW Global. A few of his other community service activities include serving on the Board of Trustees for the Akron Symphony and First Glance.
