Summit County ADM Board awards over $49,000 to local schools to enhance prevention education; parent involvement

The County of Summit ADM Board of Directors announces over $49,000 in grants awarded directly to schools in Summit County for prevention education activities for the 2018-19 school year. This special funding allocation is intended to increase parental school involvement and support prevention efforts to enhance skills such as good decision making, self-control, positive peer pressure, emotional awareness and communication.
“Research shows that strengthening protective factors, such as social skills, academic success and parental involvement, can reduce risk of alcohol and substance abuse,” explained Jerry Craig, executive director of the ADM Board. “Providing these grants to our local schools is just one approach we use to insure critical information about substance abuse, suicide prevention and healthy life skills is shared with young people and families in Summit County.”
The following schools received grants:
- Akron Public Schools; $9,421
- Barberton Middle School; $450
- Hudson Middle School; $2,500
- Nordonia Hills Local Schools; $15,500 (plus $5,000 fundraising match)
- Stow-Munroe Falls City School District; $480
- Tallmadge High School; $2,200
- Twinsburg Local Schools; $7,500
- Woodridge Local Schools; $5,990

The County of Summit ADM Board is responsible for planning, funding, monitoring and evaluating treatment, prevention and support services for people who experience addiction and/or mental illness.
