Crisis Intervention Team (CIT)
The ADM Board partners with a variety of Summit County agencies to educate first responders about mental health disorders and to teach de-escalation techniques. The goal is to reduce harm to the individual(s) involved in a crisis situation as well as to the responding team members.
The CIT program is a community partnership, composed of EMS workers, law enforcement, mental health and addiction professionals, individuals living with a mental health or substance use disorder, loved ones of those affected by a mental health or substance use disorder, and community advocates. CIT is an innovative first-responder model of police-based crisis intervention training to help people with mental health or substance use disorders access appropriate treatment rather than place them in the criminal justice system as the result of illness-related behaviors. The program also promotes officer safety as well as the safety of the individual in crisis.
